"Knowing"

Last weekend I wanted to watch Seven Pounds by Will Smith but the cinemas were no longer screening this movie (yeah, I'm so yesterday).

Anyway, a movie poster caught my attention and I briefly heard of this new movie from someone before. So I just bought the tickets for "Knowing" but not really knowing what was the movie about.

The movie begun in 1959, students in an elementary school were told to draw predictions of the future world- 50 years later. Some drew flying cars and space travel. But one little girl, Lucinda is not drawing a picture but furiously scribbling a series of strange numbers (below pic) while looking very disturbed. The drawings were buried in a time capsule. Fifty years later, the time capsule is opened during the school's 50th anniversary and Lucinda's scribblings end up in the hands of Caleb Koestler (Chandler Canterbury) which was discovered by his father astrophysicist John Koestler (Nicolas Cage). John has recently lost his wife in a tragic hotel fire and is a troubled soul. He is entangled between whether life is a series of events in a pre-determined order or a set of random incidents. One night, after a few drinks he happens to notice a pattern in the numbers. The numbers list a series of predictions of disasters around the world and a few has yet to happen.

The first half of Knowing was pretty predictable when John's warnings went unheeded as no one believes him, not even his best friend. Meanwhile his son Caleb starts to see eerie visions, mysterious men and hear undecipherable whispers which was what similarly happened to Lucinda.

What does the numbers really mean? Who are the mysterious men? Can John saves the day?

Nicholas Cage's protrayal of John was emotionally bland at best. I think his expressions were too subtle, too weak. Chandler Canterbury's character of Caleb was more refreshing and inspiring. The high points of Knowing which I like best were the dramatic intense disaster scenes - the visual and sound effect was absolutely superb and real. Director Alex Proyas (The Crow) has also done well in keeping the eerie atmosphere (my friend's sudden jerky reaction whenever she was scared) and mystery right to the end of the movie.

Chilling Scenes

Of course there were many bits and pieces of the movie which went unexplained but the mysterious momentum was driving the plot forward without really noticing. It is science fiction bordering on current realities and hypothetical imagination.

The ending is open to interpretation and debatable but unless you want everything explained to ridiculous detail, I would say... it's worth to watch.

SIM Card R.I.P

I am moody and frustrated :(
My SIM card died on me last night. Certified time of death was 12.10a.m.

There were no symptoms. It just "beep beep" for the last time and the lifeline was cut.

I frantically tried to resuscitate my SIM by swapping to another mobile phone. I even tried cleaning the darn SIM and reloading in to my phone countless of times. But it was useless - I couldn't save it.

Phone/ SIM death is one of life's greatest inconveniences. Apologies to the ones who were worried and concerned about me when I was unreachable.

I am getting a replacement now.

FHM: My Favourite Magazine

My girlfriend is curious I am so infatuated with her. I think she might be secretly jealous of her and I'm not doing much to hide my sinful thoughts. She was my first love. I am absolutely loyal to her and I just can't possibly live without FHM.

Believe it or not, I have been reading FHM (For Him Magazine) since 1995 when I was working in Singapore. When I returned to KL for my studies, I was already hooked on FHM. Fortunately, FHM had already launched their Malaysian edition by 1996. They are now one of the most popular men magazine in Malaysia!

I have never missed a copy every month since then. Not one single copy. There are over 150 copies stacked neatly in my home and my family aren't please about it. Not that I give a damn anyway. I had clearly designated "no touch zone" for my precious collection.

So why is FHM so hot?

Singapore Trip: D&D Crazy Moments

This was the hotel where we stayed for a night. The rooms were a bit small but was otherwise ok. The bathroom was practical and clean but the beds were creaky and creepy.

Ok, actually I just want to share some crazy moments during the D&D.

Everyone were cool when we began

We had a couple of drinks

Cheers!

After a couple of beers…

Everyone trying to be cute…

“Take it easy la young man”

Round and round… musical chair game began

Music stopped and the girls fight for a chair

Flashing V-sign (Halo! You haven’t win yet la)

“Oh yes! Yes! Yessss….! It’s my chair! Meoowww!”

“I’m the winner!” (Please don’t scare the kids la ok)

Holding their breath underwater (Warning: Do not try this at home)

“La..la..la... Everyone wave your hands!”

Some crazy people really waving their hands

The full effect of alcohol setting in

Getting crazier...

“Eh! I’m not ready yet la”

Losing team has wear mini-skirt (hmm... sexy)

“Grrr… Tie me with your socks!” (Warning: Not for under 18 years old)

Brudder! Are u ok?

Moments before returning to hotel for ZZZ…

Help Charity For Free

That's right! You can donate to charity without using your money.

How many times have we been approached by suspicious individuals requesting for donations? While most of us have a big heart, far too many have been fleeced by illegal syndicates or heard of friends being duped.

Sadly, we have become paranoid the moment we hear "donation". We have become overly cautious to the extent of being oblivious to any charity to protect ourselves. However, most charitable organisations depend on generous donations and the needy really needs our help.

Hotel Combined is a company which is actively donating to charity. HotelsCombined.com is a unique free to use search engine that consumers can use to find hotel availability and rates, and to compare prices and offers by searching over 30 major travel sites at once.

Here is how easy you can help the charity for free. You can even donate to the charity of your choice.

Singapore Trip: Company D&D

I went to Singapore last week specifically for my company's annual dinner & dance. I was expecting the usual routine 8-course Chinese dinner and some light chattering.

But I was in for some surprises.

Firstly, kudos to the ladies for dressing so elegantly. I never seen some of them in party dresses except for the boring office wear. Hmm...

The food was nothing to shout about but the games were hilarious. After the MD's speech and the first appetizer dish, the dreaded games began to unveil. We were assigned to 6 different teams. Each team supporters were actively cheering or jeering other teams.
I participated in the balloon popping game (which is dangerous) and the beer drinking game. There were other games like karaoke singing, face in the water basin to see who hold the breath longest and musical chair. On top of that, I was one of the assigned camera man that night.

Her hands are holding a sharp bamboo stick ready to pounce on me!

Interesting Karaoke performances.

The guys from losing team has to wear "mini-skirts". Wow... sexy legs :)

At the end of the night we did had a lot of fun.

The next day, a kind lady friend brought us sight seeing the city. Pardon me for all the smiley faces because they did not permit me from exposing them (sigh)

Magic. Her V-sign hand looks like superimposed on his T-shirt

I must express sincere thanks to our friend cum guide. She patiently took us sightseeing and shopping. She accompanied us until we left the hotel to Changi airport. THANKS!
