Bangkok Trip 2009 Part 1

Day 1 Bangkok
Sa wa dee ka! My friends and I were very excited upon landing in Bangkok, Suvarnabhumi Airport on a Airasia flight but were even more “excited” when the ground tour agent who was supposed to pick us up, was nowhere to be seen. I was upset because just 2 hours earlier at LCCT, we were given the wrong boarding passes by Airasia counter check-in crew. We had less than 30 minutes before departure when we found out this almost fatal mistake. Fortunately we managed to get new boarding passes to board our flight.

Okay we did panic initially and I searched several times until I found a ladyboy sitting and chatting with “her” friend holding my name placard. Damn! I wanted to squeeze her but I was too relieve to have found her. Apparently she was the agent’s representative.

We stayed at Diamond City Hotel. It’s not posh but really nice. The staff was very warm and friendly. I love their breakfast, simple and yummy. They served fried egg, sausages, bread, porridge and fried rice with a local aroma.

We had dinner at Suan Lum Night Bazaar. Tom Yam is a must!

Day 2
We had breakfast at Diamond City Hotel :)
Lunch was at Wind Rose Restaurant buffet style and the food was great.

Then it’s shopping shopping shopping! We went to Pratunam shopping enclave and bargain bargain bargain with the locals.

The new and old Bangkok.

At night we had dinner at a local hotel and we went to Suan Lum Night Bazaar again for shopping. My legs were numb by then and we went for foot massage.

Coconut ice cream is cool and refreshing and popular in Bangkok.

Day 3
After breakfast, we headed off to Chaophraya for a river boat ride.
Fishing villages along the river bank.

Along the river, there were boat people selling their wares.
We fed the fishes in front of a temple.

The majestic Wat Arun Temple.

Visiting and praying at a temple (Four Face Buddha) is a must in Thailand if you are a buddhist.

Lunch at Mang Gorn Luang ("The Royal Dragon") Restaurant.

The Royal Dragon Restaurant was opened in 1991 and got in to the Guinness Book of Records being the largest restaurant with a seating capacity of 5,000 and staff of about 1,200 in an area of 8.35 acres.
The Tom Yam was served by a "flying" waiter. (use wire rope one la.)

We left Bangkok for Pattaya in the late afternoon. We were exhausted and fell fast asleep on the bus...
