Have you McValue LUNCH-ed this week?

I was working my brains out in office this morning. Too many things to do and too many datelines to meet in just a few hours. I feel so tiny against the PC. I am nearly burned out.

By afternoon, my body has reached "low battery" level. Beep beep!

Grrr... My tummy was growling. I can't focus. My mind was wandering elsewhere. I need food! But I can't afford a long lunch.

I thought of mee goreng. Nah, I can't wait for them to fry it.

For a second I had thought of economy rice. But I hate the long queue.

Then I remembered seeing this somewhere.

Aha! There's a McDonald's restaurant around the corner of my office. They are many choices in the McValue Lunch menu; McChicken, Fillet-O-Fish, Double Cheeseburger, Spicy Chicken McDeluxe, Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Big Mac, Chicken McNuggets, Ayam Goreng McD and Big N' Tasty (New one !!).

For a mere RM5.95 (okay RM6.25 nett but it's still cheap) I have a McChicken burger, fries and a coke. The price is almost the same or less than mee goreng or economy rice with drinks included. That's a steal!

I ordered a McValue LUNCH McChicken set takeaway (my all time favourite la).

It took me just 6 minutes and I'm back to office. Cool.

McValue Lunch is available everyday
Monday to Sunday 12pm to 3pm.

Dine in (when you are not in a hurry)

Takeaway (when you are too busy!)

Drive Thru (when you are on the go!)

You know what's the most interesting thing about McValue Lunch?

Of course it tastes great.

Yes it's cheap.

Yes I'm full to my brim.

The point is McValue Lunch made me happy :)

And why not when I can eat it, yak about it and possibly win a iPhone 3G.

I was smiling in the office again and fully recharged!

Have you McValue LUNCH-ed this week? Go get one now.

Yes! I'm truly lovin' it..

Rice Dumpling Festival

I had "zhong chi " for lunch at my office today. Zhong chi or also zong zi in Mandarin is glutinous rice dumpling with fillings wrapped with leaves. Eating zhong chi is associated with a traditional Chinese celebration of Duen Ng Jit (Cantonese) or better known as Duan Wu Festival (in Mandarin). In English, it is poplarly known as the Dragon Boat Festival (see wikipedia).

I remember when I was in primary school, my mother used to prepare the ingredients to make zhong chi. First she had to cook the fillings, usually pork, mushroom and an assortment of beans. Then she filled the ingredients in to the prepared glutinous rice. Next, she had to wrap them with leaves and secured them with strings. Finally, the dumplings were cooked in a boiling pot. I was always assigned to watch out for her. As soon as the dumplings floated on the boiling water, I called out to her and she would retrieve them. That means the dumpling was fully cooked. It sounds simple but the cooking process is tedious.

Duan Wu Festival falls on this Thursday, 28 May 2009 this year. It is celebrated by Chinese around the world on the 5th day of 5th month on the Chinese lunar calendar every year. My mother do not make zhong chi anymore as it's too tiring for her. I really miss her dumpling. But luckily, my girlfriend and friends made some for me.

Today, not many in the younger generation appreciate Duan Wu Festival. Perhaps some have never even heard of this festival. It would be a shame if this traditional festival is lost on the younger children.

There are a few theories on the origin of Duan Wu Festival but the most popular legend is about a person named Qu Yan in ancient China. The festival commemorates the death of poet Qu Yuan (340 BC - 278 BC) of the ancient state of Chu, in the Warring States Period of the Zhou Dynasty. A descendant of the Chu royal house, Qu served in high offices. However, when the king decided to ally with the increasingly powerful state of Qin, Qu was banished for opposing the alliance. Qu Yuan was accused of treason. During his exile, Qu Yuan wrote a great deal of poetry, for which he is now remembered. Twenty-eight years later, Qin conquered the Chu capital. In despair, Qu Yuan committed suicide by drowning himself in the Miluo River on the fifth day of the fifth month.

It is said that the local people, who admired him, threw food into the river to feed the fish so that they would not eat Qu Yuan's body. This is said to be the origin of zongzi. The local people were also said to have paddled out on boats, either to scare the fish away or to retrieve his body. This is said to be the origin of dragon boat racing.

Here are some of the variety of dumplings.

I Can Relate to Ghosts of Girlfriends Past

I'm not fond of talking about my past girlfriends. Infact, it's a bad idea if my current girlfriend is reading this. So I hope she will be too busy to notice, I truly hope. There will be endless comparisons and listless of things to explain. I think no relationship is sustainable with an ex-girlfriend in the picture. Mention the word "ex" will open the pandora box any guy would fear. So why take such a huge risk? Blame it on Nuffnang.

First, I have to admit I was very "adventurous" when I was in my 20s. Of course my track record was bad but I can safely say I never really two time a girl. Well that didn't justify my behaviour then but before you curse me to my grave, just hear it out on how I ended up being such a callous jerk?

It all began when I was a 19 year old college student in the mid 90s. She was a year younger than me. We were good friends until I have fallen for her. I did not really have any dating experiences except for a brief puppy love spell when I was 15. Let's not go in to that embarassing story now. Okay back to the point. When I found out I have the thing for her, I tried to pursue her like an Olympic 100m final.

I was impatient, I was dying to be her boyfriend.

I constantly wanted to possess every free time she had. I wanted to care and to protect her with all my heart. Either she did not really notice or I was good at hiding my feelings. I took months to summon enough courage to express to her how I felt.

One night I sheepishly asked her out for dinner. After that I suggested walking in a park nearby. I was not my normal self and unusually quiet that night. I guess she noticed and felt uneasy. After hours of sitting on the park bench, she broke silence.

"You have something to say? You seem weird tonight?", she queried.

"Umm... I'm okay. Nothing la", I answered.

"If you have something to say, then say it la. What's wrong with you? The mosquitoes are biting me all night!!", she retorted.

I must say I chose a bloody wrong park infested with mozzies. Finally, on a deep breath I confessed my love for her. I look deeply in her eyes and ask her to be my girlfriend. There was a deafening silence and blank look on her face.

"I have always just thought of you as a good friend. Let me think about it and call me again after 3 days", she said.

In that 3 days, I felt like a prisoner on death row. But she did agreed to be my girlfriend to try it out. We had our first dinner and held hands as a new sweet couple. I was exhilirated. The next day I called her to express my ecstatic feelings.

"Hey I hope you won't get upset, last night I have thought about us. But I don't think we're right for each other. Maybe we should just be friends again. Sorry...", she said.

I was stunned beyond words. I tried to persuade her but she was adamant on breaking up. I was devastated. I felt like a loser. I mean who has experienced love lasting only a day? And break up the next day?

From that day, I felt bitter and distrusful of love. I let my raging hormone broke loose. I had many girlfriends or rather part time girlfriends, you know:) I lived a wild life during those days. It took me a long time to find real love again. But the memories of past girlfriends still haunt me at times.

So I think before my current girlfriend read this post, I better take her to watch GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST first. I'm taking another huge risk here as I don't know the ending of this movie. So it better be hell of a superb ending... else things are going to be very messy.
